However, let’s answer some Frequently Asked Questions…

RazorBurn is a 5-day camping event inspired by the culture and 10 Principles of Burning Man.
It occurs on a primitive camping site in Rutland, Ohio annually on Memorial Day Weekend.

RazorBurn is a participatory, volunteer-created playground where attendees can feel free to “go against the grain” and explore creative expression with a sense of whimsy and play.

Thursday, May 21 thru Monday, May 25, 2026

RazorBurn makes its home at Reclaim, a secluded private property in Rutland, Ohio. Once a strip mine, the property has been “reclaimed” by its current owner and carefully nurtured back toward a natural state. Today it sits alongside native plant sanctuaries and continues to heal through long-term stewardship.

Reclaim is a primitive camping spot, with zero amenities, so pack intentionally!

Please note that GPS is limited in the area, so please prepare your directions in advance.

As the inaugural year, RazorBurn 2026 will be open to 18+ participants. We have full intentions of becoming open to all-ages as the Event grows and matures. Stay tuned for an update for 2027.

RazorBurn takes place in late May (early Summer) in Southeast Ohio. Expect hot days and cooler nights, however because it *is* Ohio, be prepared for fluctuations!

  • Prepare for possible extreme heat – bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and shade (maybe even a parasol or umbrella for traveling the field).
  • Prepare for cool nights – bring plenty of layers and warm bedding.
  • Rain is also quite a possibility, so be sure to bring appropriate gear.

RazorBurn is primitive glamping at its best!

The site has NO built in amenities, however the Event Org provides:

  • Portable Toilets
  • Firewood (Please do NOT bring firewood from external areas.)
  • Ice Sales – In the interest of food safety and minimizing vehicle traffic, RazorBurn organizers will coordinate ice runs during the event. Small bags are available for $3 – please drop off cash at the central Volunteer Hub by noon Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Everything you need to survive in a field in Ohio for 5 days in May. Read The Survival Guide for suggestions.

Vehicle Camping is permitted in specified areas only. Outside of designated Vehicle Camping areas, cars may not remain at camp sites for longer than 2 hours after pack in (with the exception of late night arrivals, where the car must move the following morning)

To register as a Vehicle Camper, fill out this form by April 24th 11:59pm

No. Re-entry to the event will be prohibited, however you are welcome to leave the event at any time. If you wish to pack up and leave during non-exodus hours, please contact a Ranger or Volunteer to acquire a shuttle. Absolutely NO driving will be permitted during the event after the Gate is closed.
In the event of extenuating circumstances (such as medical emergencies) that lead to premature departure, please contact an Organizer on site regarding this policy.

RazorBurn is a Leave No Trace event. Everything you bring in should leave with you, and ideally when we’re gone, it should look like we were never there. Plan ahead to pack out everything you bring and any trash you generate and to make as little impact on the land as possible.

Preventing and addressing MOOP – or Matter Out Of Place – is everyone’s responsibility. Taking care of the site is part of our civic duty to each other and helps make sure we can continue gathering on this beautiful property for years to come.

Make a plan to leave with all of your garbage, recyclables, food waste, ashes, and gray water. Sturdy trash or contractor bags, lidded buckets, and gloves are excellent tools to have on hand.

Tier 1: January 27 – April 15, 2026 – $125

Tier 2: April 16 – May 17, 2026 – $140

~No Gate Sales~

Tickets are purchasable at https://razorburn.volunteeripate.com

In an effort to support our community, a limited number of Need Based Tickets are available for those who may feel the regular ticket cost prohibitive to their participation in the event. These tickets are to allow participants with financial constraints to attend. These tickets are supported by community donations and a set of tickets set aside by the Org.

Applications open March 15 and will be accepted until April 15, and are met in the order in which they are received. Applicants must create an account at https://razorburn.volunteeripate.org  and submit the Needs Based Tickets form.

In general, RazorBurn has a no refund policy. Late entries, early departures for any reason, or unused tickets will not receive a refund. Should RazorBurn be cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances outside the control of the organizers, the event leads may transfer tickets to the next event or offer full or partial refunds at their discretion.

General Tickets are transferable between participants.

Needs Based Tickets are not transferable.

Theme camps are groups of participants who come together to provide a service, entertainment, or other interactive experience to share with the community. It is not required that you be part of one; Open Camping also exists for any individual or group to find a spot for themselves without pre-registering or joining a camp!

Sound camps are Theme Camps with amplified sound (think, more than a boom-box or bluetooth speaker)

Theme/Sound Camps should be registered in order to receive placement throughout the event to ~curate the vibe~ and ensure everyone has appropriate space, noise placement, etc.

To register a Camp or an Art piece, fill out this form by April 24th 11:59pm.

Yes! There will be two main art structures, Effigy and Temple, as well as other registered art pieces throughout the event. The burn is a place of creativity and radical self-expression, so all types of art, installations, music, costumes, performances, and more are welcome and encouraged.

To register an Art piece or Installation for placement, please fill out this form by April 24th 11:59pm.

As a participatory Event, there are sure to be a myriad of sites, sounds, scents – you name it – to be experienced!

The What, Where, When (WWW) guide is a volunteer created document that does it’s best to capture events hosted around the Event.

While you by no means need to go to bed, we *do* have to be respectful of our neighbors!

Reclaim sits on a hilltop surrounded by rock walls, creating something of a natural amphitheater. Sound carries differently here, and the echoes and bass can travel far beyond the property.

RazorBurn is new and still earning our stripes with the property’s neighbors. In that, we need to be respectful with our noise pollution.

Sound checks will be conducted throughout the event. If you plan to bring amplified sound, please register here as a sound camp or installation so we know where sound will be located.

  • Sound from any installation should not exceed 90 dB at 40 feet from its source
  • Sound checks will take place throughout the event; feel free to check in with Volunteer Hub if you have questions.
  • Do not leave any sound systems running loudly and unattended.

Turn-Down Times

  • Thursday: 11:59 PM
  • Friday: 3:00 AM
  • Saturday: 3:00 AM
  • Sunday: 11:59 PM

This means about <60 dB at 30 feet – don’t make your neighbors hate you.
Bass and volume restrictions lift again at 10:00 AM (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday)

Safety is priority when it comes to fire. Southern Ohio may be under a burn-ban or restriction during May. Official notice will be released before and/or at the event regarding changes in burn restrictions.

Fire pits, effigy, burn sites:
Do NOT create new fire pits or burn scars!

  • A few established fire circles may host community fires.
  • Personal or camp fires must be contained in appropriate vessels and elevated at least 8” off the ground – or high enough to prevent scorching – using bricks, cinderblocks, or similarly sturdy materials.
  • Propane fires are permitted.
  • Fire remnants (ash, partially burnt wood, other stuff you threw in the fire) must be packed out with you.

This event will have a large central fire on Saturday night and Sunday night. No new fires should be built on the Burn Site after Effigy is burned and before the Temple is burned.

Fire art involving propane puffers or explosives are prohibited.

All fires may be subject to restriction based on Ohio burn-ban restrictions in place at any given time.

Flow artists and fire spinners commonly dot the RazorBurn landscape.  If you’re planning to spin fire during the event, please attend at least one Fire Safety Meeting before lighting up.

These brief gatherings are held daily at Ranger / Volunteer HQ near the main field, and are led by our lead conclave organizers. Attendance is recorded, and participants will receive a wristband or other marker indicating they’ve completed the safety orientation.

During the meeting, our Fire And Safety Team (FAST) will review important guidelines including fuel depot procedures, how to safely extinguish prop, person, or fuel fires, event safety words, and other best practices to help keep performers and spectators safe.

RazorBurn is a volunteer-fueled event. Our community is committed to a radically participatory ethic. We believe that transformative change, whether in the individual or in society, can occur only through the medium of deeply personal participation. We achieve being through doing. Everyone is invited to work. Everyone is invited to play!

Volunteer sign ups are available Pre-event under the “Department” tabs in the Menu of  Volunteeripate. Manual Sign-up sheets will be available at the Volunteer Hub (hours 10a-6p).

Whether you’re outgoing or shy, interested in wandering the Burn or chillin’ in the shade – there’s a way to get involved and help the event happen!

  • Gate volunteers chill and check people’s ticket info – tag and release!
  • Rangers wander the Burn checking in on their neighbors, being friendly faces and the first point of contact for help!
  • Leave-no-trace volunteers (aka Earth Guardians) wander the property picking up MOOP and keeping our land looking sharp – a good job for goblin types and treasure hunters!
  • Effigy Guardians or Perimeter Keepers help ensure the Effigy or Temple structures can burn safely and get to watch the faces light up in the fire glow!
  • And more!
